Art on Purpose presents 20 Years of Wandering @ the Walters

20 Years of Wandering highlights personal stories and experiences, related to the heroic journey of the Greek hero Odysseus. The first event celebrates the art and stories of refugees and immigrants who participated in art workshops, sharing tales of harrowing journeys, thwarted ambitions, and lost homes.

Featuring:

Multi-ethnic musical performances

Helene Coccagna, curatorial research assistant, Heroes: Mortals and Myths in Ancient Greece, and Gustavo Torres, Founding Director of CASA de Maryland, explore affinities between the experiences of immigrants today with those of the Greek hero Odysseus.

TWO AK SLAUGHTER EVENTS IN ONE WEEK!

AK Slaughter will be performing at The Walters Art Museum tomorrow!
SPECIAL EVENT: College Night: Bling! Bling! Bling!

Not only is this a FREE event, you can get into The Walter's current exhibit "Bedazzled" (normally $8) for FREE as well. The event is from 6-9 and AK Slaughter will be playing at 8:00 or 8:30.

Take a look back while moving forward. Jewels and gems have long been associated with power, desire and mystery. Not much has changed-or has it? With a unique infusion of hip-hop music and contemporary dialogue about "Bling", the Walters aims to engage college/university students in a fun and friendly approach to the history of jewels and gems. Expect performances by hip-hop musicians, localDJs, food and non-alcoholic beverages, gallery conversations led by curators, and presentations by conservation science staff.

Apparently, even though it says you need a college ID to get in, if you just show up you should be fine. But, if you're like me and you still use your expired college ID on a regular basis, then you'll be ok too.
