The Contemporary Museum and Slant Six Creative will launch the Second Shore film series with the screening of Lemonade on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The film will be shown at the Windup Space in Baltimore’s Station North Arts and Entertainment District.

Lemonade is a 2009 documentary about 16 advertising professionals who found true passion in the face of economic adversity. After being fired from their previous positions, they established themselves in such diverse careers as master coffee roaster, Tour de France cyclist, yoga instructor, professional blogger, and established painter.

The film will be followed by a discussion with local professionals in creative fields who will share how they have adapted to pursue their passions.

Admission to Lemonade and the discussion is free, with a suggested donation of $8 to support future Second Shore film screenings.

VS. Opens @ The Windup Space Friday, June 5

Who Can't get down with some Gamer art? Vs. an exhibition of art by local illustrators, comic book artists and video game designers opens at the Windup Space this Friday, June 5 from 7 - 9pm

From the press release:

Baltimore-based artists working in the visual entertainment fields of video games, comic books and illustration will exhibit their personal work in VS., a new gallery show at The Windup Space during the month of June. An opening reception for VS. takes place Friday, June 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the bar, music and arts venue located at 12 W. North Ave. in the heart of the Station North Arts and Entertainment District. The show ends on July 31^st.

Each of the 14 artists in the exhibition will interpret the theme of conflict from a fine art perspective. It may be literal -- Bigfoot vs. Cookie Monster -- or conceptual -- Nature vs. Nurture.

Artists include video game environment artist and landscape painter Colin Campbell, graphic novel artist Brian Ralph (“Cave-In,” “Climbing Out,”) video game concept artist and Spectrum Gold winner Jeremy Enecio, video game concept artist and freelance illustrator Sean Murray and children’s book illustrator and fairy tale-inspired fine artist Jaime Zollars.

WHAT IS GREEN?
a new exhibit featuring artists exploring the color, the word, & the concept of green

through Friday October 24, 2008 (Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 4pm to 1am)

What is Green? is a group exhibition of photos, paintings and sculpture at The Windup Space. This exhibit features resident artists of Load of Fun, MICA Alumni, patrons of the Chesapeake center, and members of Baltimore art community at large. The opening reception will include live entertainment and probably some wrestling clowns.

This show aims to remind the viewer that while the color green remains relatively stable the concept of green is in flux and as it evolves we must challenge ourselves to react to both the tidal wave of scientific knowledge, hearsay and our own intuition and passion towards life to embrace and create a green world in a personally meaningful and poignant way.

J Gavin Heck, a former resident artist at Load of Fun, and winner of the "best art" award for Jazz Hand, his 2007 kinetic sculpture in the American Visionary Arts Museum Race, gathered artists including Carol Bold, Emily C-D, Reed Sayre, Daniel Stuelpnagel, Bart O'Reilly, Matt Muirhead and artists with developmental disabilities from the Providence Center and others to help examine the question What is Green?, a follow-up to his international show in the Spring, If Its Yellow.

The Fourth Wall Show, appropriately hosted by the Windup Space, features a range of music photography from intimate portraiture to telephoto zoom shots of performers on stage. The show is definitely enhanced by its location, contributing to and benefiting from the rock and roll atmosphere of the bar.

Fourth Wall: Baltimore's Music Voyeurs
…an exhibition of music photography

Turning their lenses on the musicians who inspire us, these photographers produce iconic art that reflects the energy of the moment. Commercial photography, in both the form of portraiture and performance, is often unrecognized as the remarkable work that it is.

Reflecting on these stills out of the context of their original presentation gives the viewer the opportunity to appreciate them for the artwork that they are.

This manifestation of these visions allows us to gaze through the fourth wall for as long as desired. Rich representations of artists in the midst of making art are so irresistible, they make voyeurs of us all.
