Dirty Dancing @ the Annex Theatre

Dirty Dancing...like you've never seen it before. We promise.
March 26 - 28
All shows at 8pm
Annex Theatre
$5-$10
The Effervescent Collective, The Motorettes, & Baltimore's Finest Dancing & Acting Talent present a new take on Dirty Dancing. The original plot is left more or less intact, satirizing the archetypal dance film plot also found in Flashdance, Center Stage, and Step Up of dancing-as-good vs dancing-as-evil, establishment vs anti-establishment, romance that transcends class boundaries and the requisite musical montage of training, sweating, and leg warmers.

Shallow Spaces Opens @ the Hexagon

Shallow Spaces
New work by Adam Beaver, Joe Delano, John Calvin Jones, and D'metrius Rice
Opening Reception: Saturday, March 13, 2010
6:00pm - 8:30pm
The Hexagon

The Hexagon presents Shallow Spaces, new work by Adam Beaver, Joe Delano, John Calvin Jones, and D'Metrius Rice. Shallow Spaces features mixed media paintings and works on paper by four Baltimore artists who find content at the boundary of abstraction and representation. Using fine line work, distorted portraiture, and a vivid palette that is prevalent in contemporary Baltimore art, these artists distill spatial relationships and psychological layering. The works in Shallow Spaces pair flat imagery with intricate color work, inviting viewers to explore a dialogue between concrete experience and metaphysical tension.
