Their plane crashed high in the Andes. Their only shelter was the plane’s shattered fuselage, their only supplies a little wine and some bits of candy. In the beginning, there were thirty-two survivors. Then, only twenty-seven; then, nineteen . . . and, in the end, sixteen.

This is their story---the greatest modern epic of catastrophe and human endurance.

A theatrical adaptation based on the novel Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors by Piers Paul Read (1974) as well as the 1993 film.

Baltimore Annex Theater's new play A Fistful of Flowers takes the western genre and bends, reshapes and queers the old format into a genre all its own. This play follows two contemporary cowboys, who are ex lovers, as they chase each other around the desert trying to kill each other. The play is populated by the traditional western characters and non-traditional absurdist characters while the future mixes with the past. TNT is detonated via an iPhone app. A man takes violent revenge for a bad Darth Vader tattoo. Desert cacti are animate characters. The landscape comes alive with invented and real imagery that is as psychedelic as it is everyday. Intermittently, gender roles are reversed to lend broader depth to the main characters' search for what it means to be a man... a real man (a woman).

If you missed seeing Fantastic Planet during Transmodern 2010, worry no more. The Annex Theatre is reviving their performance and performing it in the Alley between the Annex and Area 405! The Annex Theatre along with the 5th dimension presents a full immersion theatrical production with a live band based on the 1973 film "Fantastic Planet".


If it rains, it will move inside the Annex Theatre.

The playwright's from Curtis Bay Middle School in way south Baltimore, and he's 14. The cast is mostly youngsters from Greenmount West neighborhood. Come check it out!

Once there was a time when people knew the difference between sacrifice and compromise. Which is to say, they knew the difference between a walrus and a robot. Which is to say, they knew the difference between a hole in the ice and the ice itself. They knew each of the 18 hand movements prescribed by Time Motion Study, and they knew how to use them in a way that was restful. This play is a television mini-series about that remarkable period of time.

As always, The Missoula Oblongata is asking the big questions here: Can inefficiency be cured? If a robot is smarmy, is it only a reflection of your own smarminess? What exactly does it take to get oneself on a postage stamp?

The original plot is left more or less intact, satirizing the archetypal dance film plot also found in Flashdance, Center Stage, and Step Up of dancing-as-good vs dancing-as-evil, establishment vs anti-establishment, romance that transcends class boundaries and the requisite musical montage of training, sweating, and leg warmers.

The Baltimore Rock Opera Society Proudly Presents Their Debut Producion

Gründlehämmer is an entirely original, medieval, fantasy rock opera that combines completely ridiculous stage theatrics with great live music. Gründlehämmer will feature 15 original rock songs performed live by a 7-piece metal orchestra, in addition to a full cast and crew of talented people.

Imagine a medieval world where music ruled: plants grow at the beckoning of a farmer’s guitar; battles between good and evil are won by the man with the shiniest guitar (and the sweetest riffs). This vision, imagined by a group of Goucher College graduates, inspired the formation of the Baltimore Rock Opera Society. The process of creating their debut production—Gründlehämmer—is an extensive one and the BROS began working on their rock opera in January of 2008. The entire script and fifteen original songs have been written collaboratively. The DIY project has grown to over 100 Baltimore residents, artists, musicians, and actors who are enthusiastically lending their time, talents, and skills to the production.

Gründlehämmer takes place in the mythical land of Brotopia, a once prosperous agrarian Kingdom where the melody of an electric guitar wields power enough to tend a field of crops, to heal the sick, or to smite an enemy. The great farming musicians of Brotopia have become disgraced under leadership of the tyrannical Dark King, Lothario. With the aid of the Royal Guard, Lothario has oppressed his citizens, confiscated the powerful instruments that gave voice to their music, and formed an alliance with an immortal cave-dwelling monster, the Gründle. While most Brojans live their lives in fear, an innocent young boy of great talent is coming of age in a tiny hamlet on the outskirts of the Kingdom. His tremendous skills on the guitar bring hope to the tiny farming village and spark the flames of resistance in those that can still remember TRUE ROCK. Will this young boy cast off his innocence to claim the Gründlehämmer? Will the Dark King release his iron grip on the lifeblood of Brotopia? Join the Brojans in their struggle to reclaim the power of Rock and Roll. GRÜNDLEHÄMMER!!!
