Jackie Milad's "Just Between Us" will open on May 15th at Paperwork Gallery

Just Between Us is a solo exhibit of drawings by local artist and curator Jackie Milad.
Exhibition: May 15 - June 15, 2008
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 15 from 7-9 p.m.

American University MFA Exit Show Opening

The Katzen Center was abuzz yesterday with a regional A-list art crowd, all anxious to see the work of the newest professional DC-artists. Cory Oberndorfer's gigantic, graphic roller-ladies could be seen from the street, filling the building's front hallway windows. The rest of the second years' work filled the majority of the first floor of the museum, really, these kids are (for the most part) working big, and looking professional!

Tim Campbell (a ten tigers favorite) exhibited large-scale text paintings and prints.




Brian Barr's large portraits of Zac and Cory, a clean, painterly hand always gets me, I love these pieces:

Photos from Ethnography Opening

Make sure you check out Ethnography of No Place, given an awesome review in the new City Paper, at Goucher College's Rosenberg Gallery. The exhibition opened (officially) April 11th:

A good opportunity to check out the show would be on April 22, while you are already on the campus for the Lisa Weintraub lecture.

Sounds pretty good; got a B52's, Talking Heads/"Love for Sale" kinda groove. Wouldn't hurt if he sounded as animated as his "Mellowgold" days though...
Anyway, the photos are from artist Chris Jordan, a photographer documenting the "Intolerable Beauty" of our "slow-motion apocalypse in progress" (see his "Portraits of American Mass Consumption" here).

Personally, I think the photo-mosaics are a little kitschy, but I suppose sometimes it takes a gimmick to get mass attention.
However, his Katrina series has some absolutely beautiful images...

Intricate Exhibition

Intricacies of Line, an exhibition of fiber-based art works, presented the work of 6 artists employing delicate materials in bold ways. April Wood's elegant doily-like wall pieces are actually, at a closer glance, made from dried tripe with metal letter stamping. Gina Denton's yarn and felted sculptures, on the other hand, looked entirely organic despite their unnatural palettes.
