As part of the 2011 Transmodern festival, 8 new murals are being added to the unoccupied, city-owned, dilapidated storefronts on the 400 block of Howard street.... At least Baltimore is doing THAT with them...

The opening for the murals by artists Caitlin Cunningham, Gary Kachadourian, Jordan Bernier, Josh Van Horne, Emily C-D, and Shana Palmer is tonight at 9pm - 11pm.  Preview them here:

Bike Galleries by Dustin Carlson, Premiering @ Artscape, next stop: MIAMI!

Dustin Carlson fabricated three bike-trailor galleries which debuted at Artscape this past weekend. Ridden by Dustin, Brendan Rush and Gary Kachadourian, the project will be perfected and brought down to Miami during Basel in December!

Abandon Ship Opens @ Current

Abandon Ship, the last exhibition at the 30 South Calvert location, is an ongoing installation and simultaneous, creative destruction of the building before its official tear-down. Artists are invited to continue to contribute to the exhibition up until the day before demolition, as long as they are willing to let their pieces get destroyed with the building. Both awesome and a little sad, highlight from the exhibition include Gary Kachadourian's wheatpasted backyard and dumpster, A row boat by Audrey Collins Petrich, a collaborative papier mache installation that explodes through the ceiling, and the slick, cut-out wall text. Be sure to check it out before its gone!

MASKED, curated by Joan Weber MASKED is an exploration of work about concealment, secrets, self-conscious and social constructions of identity which ultimately reveal a new face –a brilliant corona of strength, integrity and courage. Each work is a performance piece of sorts; the artists have used their own bodies or their own biographies to very directly create a presence that suggests a story or a secret. However, rather than being a study in psychology or narrative, where one might work to discover that secret, this assembly is exciting in that even while experiencing the powerfully posited content on the surface, we know that there is an equally powerfully complex internal life.
